A piece of lost poetry
When in 1830 to 1854 the night watch services were re-organized by the state, the very popular night watchman was no longer needed and replaced by the police. Altough the conditions of nightly security increased considerably people mourned the good old night watchman and complained about “a lost piece of poetry”.
The desire for personal, individual security patrols became more and more common. It finally resulted in a new concept of safety which was generally taken on and put into practice. After gaining profound knowledge of security guarding services in America a German salesman found the first security corps in Hannover in 1901. Soon new corps and branches were founded all over Germany.
On August 21, 1902
the Nürnberger Wach- & Schließgesellschaft was founded. The operating area was Nuremberg and the north of Bavaria.
In 1904
the German security corps merged into an association and then even published their own newspaper in which they published their success stories.
Although the staff had not yet received the modern training of today they were respectably successful. The authorities started to make use of the services of the new corps as well. A report of the year 1904 names the public clients of the Nürnberger Wach- & Schließgesellschaft:
: the royal central workshop
: the royal home for the deaf and dumb
: the royal north station
: the new buildings of the city magistrate
Today
the Nürnberger Wach- & Schließgesellschaft has become one of the major companies in this line of business in Germany. It is a modern service company which uses highly sophisticated technology in its 24-hours emergency response and service centers and CCTV centers.
Today the company has got offices in Nuremberg, Bamberg, Berlin, Coburg, Hofgeismar, Ingolstadt, Leipzig, Neuötting, Sinheim/Steinsfurt, Stuttgart, Vienna and Würzburg.
